On April 23 this year, I stayed up late and outside to watch the milky way and capture it as it rose above our house. I got a few shots and experimented with some settings, as this was only the second time I had tried an astrophotography shoot, the first being one I was way too keen with little knowledge. All of the photos in the first shoot were out of focus because I had relied on the camera’s auto focus system, but when the second shoot came around, I wasn’t going to make the same mistake and had learnt a lot about astrophotography. It is probably one of my favourite forms of photography because it is so ‘trial and error’.
Here are two photos from my shoot on that night, the one with the house and milky way rising above having earned me a highly commended at this years Gympie Show Photography Section, which is a promising start.
